SUBJECT: COLLECTING PIECES OF POTTERY FOR SALE 

      I am writing in reply to your email dated October 19^th, 2011 on the above subject, and I would like to inform you that it is illegal to collect pieces of pottery, found on land and in the water, in the Republic of Cyprus. 

      The Antiquities Law (see Department of Antiquities web site) states clearly in Part 1, Paragraph 3 that any antiquity found on Cypriot soil or water shall be property of the Government.
